About This Game Matchy Star is a twist on the classic match 3 game style where players must collect matches based on the ships' pre-set path. A vast galaxy to explore, all the way from Star Base to the legendary Xanadu with 46 levels throughout 11 systems, and colorful little stars derping all over the place. The game includes 30 items with a hundred different stat boosts to collect for your bubbly and swanky ships: Zippy, Skippy, and Bob. They're fancy and special, so they need their proper swag.Zippy, Skippy, and Bob are not alone! They have the help of 7 rocket surgeon stars, supporting them along the way: Matchy Star, Spacey Galaxy, Speedy Sputnik, Doctor UFO, Guru Moon, and Pirate Planet. These familiar faces are from Matchy's Kooky Cookies and MatchyGotchy, and they are coming back to the rescue. Help Matchy Star complete all these puzzle challenges and make it all the way to Xanadu, because last time he was there he forgot his wallet. It is time to get your Matchy on!Meet The ShipsTo reach Xanadu, Matchy Star has taken up the help of his three most efficient ships: Zippy, Skippy and Bob. The three ships must meticulously follow their flight plan based on the available path, extending their range with the help of the stars they collect along the way. In order to move forward, you must match as many stars as possible in the ship's flight path. The faster you string gigantic matches together the better. Zippy is the largest and slowest ship, but he makes up for it by baking the best cookies ever. Skippy is mid-sized and goes second, holding the record for eating the most cookies under a minute. Bob is the smallest and fastest, and for some unknown reason he likes burnt cookies. However quirky their relationship with cookies might be, they all agree in their love of wearing items that helps them improve their stats. Get yourself a crown, a monocle, a beard and a sword! Turn your ship into the most stylish cool kid in the galaxy. You can collect special power ups too, which provide important help to your space exploring efficiency. The number of victory stars you collect throughout each level determines their power level including: gem score bonuses, speed regulation, fuel consumption and buffer alerts. Advanced levels can get a bit difficult, so items and power ups can make a difference. If you enjoyed MatchyGotchy and Matchy's Kooky Cookies, then we invite you come along with Matchy Star once more into the game that gave birth to this new colorful world.Matchy Star is an original game by Silverware Games bringing a world of cuteness, random silliness, and interactive fun. We welcome you in this journey along with us, and invite you to make yourself comfortable and enjoy the fun.Thank you for playing! Matchy Star Activation Code [key] Meet The Rocket Surgeons: MatchyGotchy happened as a result of Matchy Star. While working with Matchy Star, we wanted to give these cute characters a life of their own. This is where the idea of interacting with them as virtual pets came into the Matchyverse.Matchy Star is the original character, and he explores the Alpha System where he meets all the other stars on the way. Originally called gems, as part of a match 3 design, eventually they all became characters instead and we call them Stars now thanks to MatchyGotchy. The stars were given a purpose in space, they want to grow to become rocket surgeons. It comes from that quirky mix of ‘rocket science’ and ‘brain surgery’, commonly used as a light hearted and fun take joke to suggest high intelligence or higher qualifications. Each of their own have their specific jobs though, and also their own personalities.Just like any virtual pet experience, they have their own growth and different phases of it.Smol EggWe decided to make the Stars hatch as a fond reference to tamagotchies from back then. There is no care to the egg, as we initially intended to make MatchyGotchy a short and intuitive experience to introduce the characters. In MatchyGotchy, it’s just a transitional phase that requires no care taking – we are revisiting this concept for MatchyGotchy Z!Tiny Baby.Stars are born without any outfit, or any skills. They are smart cookies though, so they are drawn to build ships in order to become a rocket surgeon – they slowly pick up on productivity as they grow up. At first, it’s a learning curve, just about the same it is for the player learning how to take care of their stars.Awkward Teenager. The are halfway into full productivity and job purpose. Once they level up, they don’t only grow in size but also acquire part of their main outfit. It knd of looks a tad off, which is the reason why it fits so well the idea of being a teenager in those awkward years while growing up. At this stage they require a bit less of undivided attention but they get distracted and sick much easier.Rocket Surgeon. They finally reach their normal size, full clothing, and a range of productivity which they do not while babies. As they continue to work, they peak in speed at their job – they get better and now you can use your stars to build up ships to get to Xanadu. They become a bit more independent and work their very best.Just like any tamagotchi-like experience, they need food and care to grow. They can also get sick, they sleep – and in MatchyGotchy, they can also die with bad care. We originally designed six actions, food and snacks, a traditional left/right game, cleaning, health and selfies. Cycling through these as needed will allow your Star to be fully productive and grow as they should to become Rocket Surgeons. Including selfies, they are part of the entertainment factor Stars need. There are a total of seven Stars, and each star has a particular task as a rocket surgeon. Let’s meet the Rocket Surgeons:MATCHY STAR AS AN ALL-DIMENSIONAL MASTER SHIPWRIGHTMatchy Star is an engineer extraordinaire. Ready to use mathematics and a trusty graphing calculator to explore the cosmos, Matchy is happy, upbeat, and full of unbridled contagious enthusiasm. Matchy’s positive nature inspires other stars to achieve nerdy heights.SPACEY GALAXY AS DAUNTLESS ELEGANT DIPLOMATSpacey Galaxy once managed to negotiate a truce in the Klatu Nebula by strategically sneezing at exactly the right moment. Never shying away from the personal touch, Spacey once took a galactic ruler’s space dog to the groomers all in the name of peace.SPEEDY SPUTNIK AS INTERSTELLAR SHIPMENT MANAGERSpeedy Sputnik knows the routes though space to get anywhere fast. Speedy managed to change the speed of light for a few hours just to make sure a delivery got to its destination on time. Always out for a promotion, this Sputnik dreams of doing deliveries for Matchy Mart.DOCTOR UFO SPACE PHYSICIAN MDDoctor UFO attended space medical school at the prestigious Space University of Medicine and Shoe Cobbling. Don’t let the good doctor’s derpy demeanor fool you, this UFO is capable of diagnosing a multitude of diseases by sense of smell alone!PIRATE PLANET AS A MIGHTY BOOTY HUNTER Pirate Planet is so grumpy that just scowling can intimidate enemies into surrendering their valuables without the need to say a word. Pirate Planet is a noble pirate, only stealing things the rapscallion really wants but doesn’t have and can’t afford.LOONY LANDER AS QUAINT ALIEN BOTANISTLoony Lander realized an internal talent for botany by managing to plant a spare microchip which grew into a tree that had tiny little computers on it. The computers were too small to use but they taste great!GURU MOON AS ASTROLOGICAL FORECAST SPECIALISTAlways one for supernatural coincidences and fortune telling shenanigans, Guru Moon became a Guru by successfully predicting how long the halftime show at the Space Bowl would be every year 5 years in a row down to the second.Have you played MatchyGotchy yet? Matchy Star Systems: Matchy Star is a match 3 puzzle game with a Match-Them-All design. We have talked about concept and gameplay so far, now let’s revise the design so far for the map.Matchy Star main map is called the Alpha System and there are 11 important areas to explore. Each area has levels, some have few, some have many – difficulty varies according to the grid and the specific pathways given. There is also another important factor to consider, that will add to the scenarios – which is called Speed. There are three ships to use: Zippy, Skippy and Bob – they move from tile to tile collecting matches in each level. The arrows on the grid tell the 3 Ships what direction to move in, they will always follow the directions of the arrows on the grid but on each level it takes different amounts of time for the ships to progress from tile to tile. At the top of the level you can see the speeds for all 3 ships. This speed determines the time it takes for each ship to move 1 tile. I wanted to include the rate at which the ships moved and tweak it on difficulty, for that I came up with a simple math take on this to assign a variable that describes speed. Taking the number 10 as a base number, an even natural number that is easy to utilize becomes the dividend to determine the speed quotient. You divide 10 with a divisor that determines the difficulty, meaning 10/10 will result in 1 second for a ship to move from tile to tile. Something like 10/20 means it will take a half second to move from tile to tile. The formula for calculating how long each tile takes is: 10/Speed = Seconds Needed To Visit Each TileAs an example, if the speed is 15 then it will take 10/15 or 667 milliseconds for the ship to move from one tile to the next. So the numbers you see on each map will explain the speed of the puzzle, it varies at different points. This is the current design of the game. It might change based on player feedback and tweaks! We might revise how to display this information to make it more user friendly in game, but the important thing to take away from this is : the higher the divisor, the faster the ship goes – it adds challenge.Matchy Star 11 Star Systems:1) Alpha System:This is the basic tutorial system with 2 levels based on Earth and Mars. In these levels the “breaks are on” meaning that the ships will wait until you move a gem to progress making it much easier to think about what move you want to make. Also in these levels only Zoot drops in the bubbles to collect. There are two levels in Alpha System.2) Starbase:We designed five levels for Starbase. This is the home base of MatchyGotchy and you can still see earth from here. The special tiles in this level affect the ship's speed. Sometimes the tiles slow down the ships and sometimes the tiles speed the ships up. This means you have to get very big matches when the ship is moving slowly and you need to try to survive when the ship is going fast. (The double fast forward arrow speeds up the ship and the line and triangle slow icon slows the ships.)3) Asteroid:These are three levels in Asteroid, these levels are just changes in the grid and have no special tiles. While this provides interesting paths to deal with for each level, difficultly allows for you to enjoy doing the most matches and hunting for items to collect.4) Red Giant:This introduces the "Split" tiles which randomly choose between two paths when the ship hits the splitter. This means players will have to plan ahead to deal with the random path in case the ship goes the wrong way. In the image below the split tile is in the middle right with the up and down arrows. When the ship reaches the split it might loop back around the top of the screen or head to the flag at the bottom. Red Giant has five levels.5) Asteroid II:Another set of levels based on different movement patterns without any special tiles, allowed for a quick rest stop and accumulating matches and items. There are three levels just like Asteroid I, this set of levels has a fast ship speed so you have to set up the matches quickly or get an item to slow your ships down.6) Black Hole:Black Hole has three levels. These levels involve missing pieces from the game grid and require moving the Stars around the holes so you have to plan how to organize the different paths the Stars take. This will require extra strategy in logical thinking trying organize big matches and harder work to find bonuses.7) Gemini:In the Gemini system you will find five levels and Zippy, Skippy, and Bob have split into doubles. This means you have to keep two ships fueled through the level at once. The ships move a bit slower here to help deal with the issues of fueling two ships at once. Also if two ships hit a match at the same time they both get the fuel for it and its double score.8) Nova:When your ships hit a nova tile they collect all the matches that exist on screen even if they aren't near your ship. This means you can get a big score by building matches anywhere for the nova tiles. Pathway and grid design demands for a different strategy in finding ways to clump up your matches. In Nova there are five levels.9) Constellation:The constellation involves complex paths and requires a very high score to proceed. True test of logistics and strategy - speed will grant you time, but pathway will work against you. Ideally, matches would not be complicated as long as you familiarize with the pathway to optimize your chances.10) Nebula:The Nebula has a combination of different tiles from the previous systems. Difficulty will peak on speed, making conscious choices of your path important to not run out of fuel. There are five levels in Nebula, and the variations from these make for a different difficulty set to tackle.11) Xanadu:There are five levels in Xanadu. These levels have combinations of special tiles in the same level. For example, in this one, there are splitters and speed changers meaning there is a random chance the ships will move faster or slower. These levels require a lot of item buffs to be able to do or a ton of skill. Itemization at the end of the game is quite important because it will allow the player to turn these things that might work against them as part of their skills to complete these match 3 puzzles. All of this has been coded in the game already, we are still working on the itemization and system bonuses - also, redefining UI changes to make it easier more user friendly. So expect some changes included in the final build.Matchy Star is still in development and you can support us by wishlisting the game right here on Steam ~☆ https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/. MatchyGotchy Feels!: It’s been a few months since September big update, I figured it was about time we revisited those big changes. We launched MatchyGotchy back in January, and ever since we’ve worked on different updates. We have shared seasonal updates like Halloween, and Valentine’s Day, but these changes are often up for two weeks or so and then they’re gone until next year. However, back in September we did a set of big changes which were fully permanent to the game. From the ‘Big MatchyGotchy Update’ we revisited a lot of user feedback and decided to tweak things around. Some were technical, and most were entirely aesthetic changes. Let’s talk about the most important revisions first. We included notifications. These pop up bubbles show up to help you understand your Star better. At first it’s supposed to guide you through as a tutorial, actions light up yellow to make it easy to follow. Eventually the popups will appear less frequently only to guide you in the right direction if needed.Party at Xanadu. Some people thought the congratulation screen wasn’t enough of a reward at the end of the game, so we decided to include a whole pool party. You can now get a proper score of how well your Stars worked, and also give them a bit of time to relax and have fun after all that hard work. Visiting Xanadu will change the laboratory too, after your visit.Stars leveling pace changed. We tweaked how Stars level. Baby phase only takes three ships and tenage phase takes another six ships – this has to do with the whole notification phase. Also, each pet is capable of different productivity skills, meaning some can produce multiple ships at once. As adults the Stars even produce ships of different colors. And last but not least, leveling includes a more visually noticeable animation to let you know your Star is on its way to become a rocket surgeon.Sleep is a bit easier. We heard that this one achievement might have felta bit grindy, so we decided to make it less of a chore to get. Sometimes idle pets will fall asleep when you aren’t using them for up to 5 sleeps. This makes the sleep achievement a bit easier. These are both visually and technically important, however, there were other changes that were just aesthetic – yet, they add more to the game now.Hands animation. The main game from the free build now has hands instead of buttons. You get to choose which hand the heart is hidden, making the game interaction somewhat more enjoyable. Also the first choice you make is a freebie, guaranteed to get you a heart.More roaches.Cleaning just got more colorful, and messier! There are different roaches now. Including a swatter to get them.Stars have different sizes while growing up.It was a minor aesthetic change, but it sure makes baby photos look extra cute now.In other updates, mostly technical, cloud save is now available. Soft and hard reset exist. Soft reset clears stars but not your score, whereas hard reset clears all your stars and your score. A lot of new things became part of the game, and also were intended to improve the game experience.Have you played MatchyGotchy yet? You should! It’s fun, it’s cute and it’s also entirely free. If you enjoyed the game, you can support us by leaving a positive review :)https://store.steampowered.com/app/772700/MatchyGotchy/. Matchy Colors and Star Shapes: Designing a set of Stars for the Matchyverse required so many iterations I’ve lost track. We needed memorable shapes that stood out and were distinct and they eventually took on personas and characteristics of their own. Here is some more info on how we did it:We really started from nothing and got a whole universe. At first we were calling these seven just “gems” or “shapes.” It would take months before we realized they were Stars and the Matchyverse was born. Getting the final shapes for the Matchy Star “Stars” took a lot of design work. The first Star, Matchy was pretty straightforward to put together but we needed a set of 7 which meant color and shape differentiation to make it very easy for players to tell which shape was which. For the colors we started with the color palate from Don’t Shoot Yourself which was designed to be bright and vibrant but not to have the colors clash or compete with one another. The first step was figuring out a set of spacy out of this world shapes that would both fit the theme and also stand out from one another. After Matchy Star, a crescent Moon was a pretty easy choice and I guess the phrase Blue Moon had entered my unconsciousness so I decided to make this Star blue. The basic moon shape took 2 iterations. The first one was a bit too thin and my mom pointed out that it should be a bit beefier to be a cuter shape so I tweaked it and got the final version. The next idea I had was for a space satellite which was originally orange. It required a lot of simplifications before it became a red sputnik. I had a sputnik character in Speedway Heroes which was part of why the iconic lil’ spud was in my brain and I knew it was a great iconic space related shape so it made it into the game.Once it was clear the Sputnik would be red, I made a ringed planet that was Orange. By Rotating it 45 degrees it seemed much bigger despite not taking up more texture space:The next Star wasn’t so clearly defined so it needed a bunch of iterations. It was supposed to be a galaxy expanding into space. I figured the spokes and points would make it stand out from the rest of the shapes. Getting the number of spokes and their curves took a lot of fidgeting. Some iterations looked like saw blades, others looked like gears.I knew I had to have a robot and I guess because of the Android logo I assumed it would be green. We had to compact it a little bit to avoid being too similar to the Android android and changed it to being a “Lander” instead. The last Star was the most complicated. It was meant to be a space ship before I had the concept of using a set of ships to collect matches:Similarly there was going to be a UFO to sow chaos and cause all kinds of trouble but the Ship and the UFO would switch places with the UFO becoming a gem and the Ship traveling above the grid. Its possible to tell what direction the Ship is moving in by looking at it and players needed that to help predict which direction the characters would be moving in.Thus we got the final Star, a UFO:Even after getting the shapes right, we still had more iterations on the combined colors of everything to make sure different Stars stood out, we would even make the images black and white to see what the different intensities of the colors were to make everything stand out as distinct as possible:Finally Jimp stylized all the Stars and added faces, giving the complete look and completing this epic design task:Eventually we punched up each Star to have a set of clothing and a profession based on their outfit and even designed personalities for each one that affect how they work in the various Matchy Verse games. It was a long, complex, and difficult process, but the Matchyverse finally has its Stars!https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/. Matchy Star Match-Them-All: We announced Matchy Star in early 2018 and people have started reaching out to us about the game already. We have no official launch date just yet because we want to finish up the game first, so we decided to share game game development notes to talk more openly about Matchy Star game design as it comes along. When we decided to create Matchy Star, we were hoping to build a casual yet charming match 3 experience with a little bit of personality. It has been a continuous process of design, in which we are still trying to find that just right balance of elements. At first, we experimented with having the game strategically place new gems based on how the board is laid out, we wanted to make it much more fun though. After letting some time pass, found more games like Lemmings and Chu Chu rocket to get inspiration from, and finally a lot new ideas were implemented in Matchy Star making it an interesting ‘Match-Them-All.’In Matchy Star, it is possible to move pieces around unlike other match 3’s because it is not about matching a set number of matches to get through the level. Instead it is about doing the massive matches on the ship's path, and keeping up the ship's fuel which is what determines if you make it through the level. It is not a linear swap and match. Instead, it is a puzzle to optimize the best way to match given the grid opportunities per level and the paths that the ships will travel on. These design choices make Matchy Star a challenge that demands skills, rather than luck.Matchy Star is not a single-dimensional Match 3, it has the core mechanics of a Match 3 and at the same time it has multiple elements from different genres. There are advancements that come with content, from the typical bonuses and itemization, all the way to clicker mechanics to interact with the game differently. We continue to work on the different layers fleshing out ideas till the game feels as fun as it gets. Matchy Star is still in development and you can support us by wishlisting the game right here on Steam ~☆ https://store.steampowered.com/app/782430/Matchy_Star/
